The SAMSON Amsteel Grey Sk-60 Dyneema is a high-performance 12-strand single braid rope made from 100% AmSteel fiber, featuring a Samthane coating. Available in sizes ranging from 7/64″ to 5/16″ in diameter, it offers an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, making it stronger than steel while also being lightweight, buoyant, and water-resistant. Although it has numerous applications such as tapered sheets, halyards, and running backstays, the rope’s slippery surface does not grip well around cleats, stoppers, or winches. To address this, a polyester cover can be applied and lock-stitched to improve handling in these areas. The 12-Strand HWMPE splice technique is recommended for splicing this rope, which is ideal for high-performance sailing.
